Why women need to create wealth

It’s always super interesting to me that if there’s one word women do not like and fear being associated with… it’s the word ‘rich’.
I spend a lot of my time speaking with women entrepreneurs, and the most important result that women see from working with me is that they make more money.
My clients seek me out BECAUSE they want to make more money.
And yet – a lot of the women I meet have really mixed feelings about making more money.
We fear money will corrupt us or bring out the worst in us or the people around us.
We fear that if we make more money we will somehow lose ourselves in the process.
Like there is another shoe that will have to drop – the pain that cancels out the pleasure. The unexpected downside to all that abundance. Because scarcity has to feature somewhere, right?
I have to say though – it’s been my view for some time that making more money is essential for all women everywhere.
It’s the means by which we can change our material circumstances.
But it’s also much more than this.
Making more money – or creating wealth as I like to call it – is a crucial way for women to create agency.
It gives us access into rooms that we would otherwise be excluded from.
It gives us the ability to create our own rooms.
And if there’s one thing you do to leave a meaningful legacy for your children and grandchildren – it’s creating generational wealth.
Now more than ever, we live in a ‘pay to play’ world. Giving your children, nieces, nephews, godchildren the ability to pay for a college education and buy a house gives them a huge advantage that it would take them decades to pay for otherwise.
So if you’re stumbling over the thought of ‘becoming rich’ or feeling some guilt or labelling yourself as selfish because you aspire to make more money through your consulting business…
I have to tell you – your intentions are good and noble.
You are aiming at all the right things.
Money is neutral. By itself it isn’t good or bad – it’s the way we hold it and use it that is good or bad.
Wealth creates options.
Wealth creates opportunities. For you and the people around you.
Wealth creates agency.
And if there’s one thing women need more of in this world, it’s agency.
I’d love to encourage you to reflect on this today – how do you feel about making more money? What comes to mind when you think about ‘being rich’?
Maybe there are some limiting beliefs that you are ready to let go of and replace with something better.
Maybe it’s time for you to write your own permission slip!
And just as important – what are you going to do differently as a result? 🤩
Have a great week,
Jessica x
