Craving Balance? This is the question you need 🤓

Well, it’s been 2 weeks since my book launched and I have to tell you – I am feeling all the things! 🤪😜😂

It’s been so incredible getting the first sales in, receiving emails and messages from so many people who’ve bought the book and have started reading!

But my dominant emotion this week…?

I’m EXHAUSTED.

In such a great way. From so much joy. From the reward of fulfilling a lifelong ambition. And also the slog of the last 4 months of finishing the book, and 2 years of planning, researching and writing!

🥵🥵🥵

But here’s what I’m hitting up against.

And I wonder if you can relate?

How do we rest, as high-achievers??

How do we slow down when all we really want to do all the time is speed up?

Because, is it me? As soon as I slow down I realise all the things I’m missing out on. All the opportunities I’m leaving on the table.

And then because I’ve slowed down I can’t stop noticing all the things at home that need sorting out.

It’s tempting to write myself a huge to do list (and if you know me, you know I don’t even believe in to do lists – so this is definitely out of alignment!)

So how can we balance our need to rest with our need to achieve??

Here’s the question I love that changes everything:

What do I most need in this moment?

Rest is all about slowing down, but not slowing down for no purpose.

It’s about slowing down so we can get present.

Stop our brains from racing into the future and making tons of plans for our next big goal or our next big adventure, or ruminating on the past and analysing all the things we could have done differently.

When we slow down and breathe, we can focus on the present moment and determine what we most need.

And the beauty of this? It can look different every hour of the day.

This morning I woke up early but realised I was really tired, so I went back to sleep for another 2 or 3 hours 😴🥰

Then normally I walk my dog first thing, but that can eat up most of the morning. We redecorated our bedroom at the end of January and I still hadn’t managed to fully pack away my clothes, so I spent an hour repositioning a rail in my closet that had been fitted too low down and then sorted through all the drawers and finally got everything put away. For the first time in 4 weeks! 🤩

The dog and I then went on our walk and the sun even came out 🤓

When we ask ourselves what we most need, we can make decisions that meet those needs.

And as entrepreneurs, we can do this way more of the time than we often remember to.

For me, rest is a combination of keeping my daily routine – with the right amount of sleep, movement and healthy food – but also doing things differently because I can.

Sometimes we need to keep the routine – go for the walk, make the salad.

But other times we need to break it and get into some of those bigger projects at last!

Today I didn’t feel like just sitting around doing nothing – I wanted to make progress with my closet reorganisation and be able to see the progress at the end of the day.

How are you feeling about balance at the moment?

Maybe you’ve spent the last few months working really hard and knocking the ball out of the park. It’s hard to slow down when it feels like we’ve got some good momentum!

Or maybe this year has felt slow to get going, and you haven’t quite found your stride yet?

Ask yourself:

What do I most need in this moment?

And see where your intuition takes you.

When you can trust yourself to meet your needs, whether it’s rest or productivity – everything changes.

Have a great week!
