What’s on your to-do list lately? Have you put down far more tasks than you can realistically expect to get done in 8 hours or less?

If it is hard to get projects in your consulting business finished and you’re always running to catch up but the number of things on your list is getting longer, you are probably taking on too much.

This doesn’t just affect you. It could mean you are not communicating with your team effectively because you are so busy with your work. Or that you are making promises to clients that you have every intention of keeping, but three weeks later you realise you’ve not sent through the information you said you would or made the introduction you promised to.

And if you’re a high achiever, like me, you feel a deep sense of frustration when you’re not meeting your own standards.

What can be done about it? You might find this a painful realisation, but you are the bottleneck in your business and it often boils down to the fact that you are asking too much of yourself.

This is important to admit because once you take the guilt out of the equation you realise that it’s not personal. You’re not a bad person, or incapable of running a business. You need to put measures in place to make your business work for you and your clients.
