Would having a business coach stop you from making your own decisions?

People sometimes worry about this before they enter a coaching relationship – that in some way their decision-making ability will diminish, or they’ll lose control over their own business.

But what I see from the client testimonials I’ve received is that my clients feel an amazing increase in their confidence to make decisions in their business as a result of working with me.

What I particularly love about business coaching is the way that it empowers others.

A coach shouldn’t take over responsibility for decision-making in a business.

But sometimes that’s exactly what happens, because the client will defer to the coach for all decisions. Suddenly they want their coach to proof-read every message and publication, tell them what to do and what to think.

And as a coach it can be a challenge to not assume that role for your client. Sometimes it’s very flattering to be asked for your opinion!

But for the coach to take over the executive functions in the business, it’s almost never in the client’s best interest for the long term.

As a coach, I always want to build up the client’s business so it can run without me. A coach shouldn’t be taking away a client’s power or sense of personal responsibility. Instead they need to nurture and equip the client to trust their own instincts, so they can function without you.

So while I completely understand why hiring a coach could potentially feel disempowering, I want to reassure you that I’m well aware of that trap, I know how to avoid it, and I’m focused on developing your leadership skills, because they are essential to the future success of your business.

Leadership is just one of the elements needed to achieve a seven-figure business. You can read more about it, and discover the other 5 when you download my free PDF report, The Six Elements of a Seven Figure Business.

And tell me, how have you felt your leadership skills improve while running your consulting business?
